A checklist to use before you pay

How to choose a kite school

Every school website says "certified instructors, safety first, best spot". None of that is checkable from the sofa. What is checkable is a short list of concrete questions, and the way a school answers them tells you more than the answers themselves. Twenty questions, grouped by what they protect.

1. Instruction — who is actually teaching you

2. Lesson structure — what you are buying, hour by hour

3. Equipment — the part you cannot inspect from a photo

4. Local knowledge — the spot, not the sport

5. Rescue arrangements — the question that separates schools

6. Languages and communication

7. Cancellation, no-wind days and money

What KiteSchool.app does and does not check. Profiles marked bookable are operated by the school itself; listings marked not yet managed by the school were built from the school's own public information and are labelled as such. We do not inspect schools or verify certifications. This checklist is how you do that.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours does a beginner course need?

Most schools plan 6–12 hours across several sessions. Wind, fitness and prior board sports change it. A school promising everyone riding in two hours is selling, not teaching.

What happens if there is no wind on my booked day?

Ask before you pay: reschedule, credit or refund-minus-fee are the usual options. In-season no-wind days in a trade-wind destination are rare; out of season they are common. Get it in writing.

Private or group?

For first water sessions, one instructor to one or two students. Larger groups can work for theory and later. Ask for the water-time ratio specifically.

Is a school on KiteSchool.app verified?

Bookable profiles are run by the school; other listings are labelled as built from public information. We do not verify certifications — use this list and the organisations' own directories.

Put the checklist to work

School profiles show what each school states about instructors, languages, levels and where it teaches, so you can arrive with these questions half-answered. Start with a destination: Cumbuco, Jericoacoara & Preá, Fortaleza, or the full directory.
